Host Your Own Eurovision Party: Tips to Save on Average Spending

Fans of the Eurovision Song Contest planning to host or attend a party to celebrate the event expect to shell out an average of $101 (£76) this year, according to a recent survey.

The typical amount is somewhat above the previous year’s average of £73 — which includes expenses like food, beverages, decorations, costumes, and amusement.

The study, initiated by TopCashback, revealed that 21% of people watching the grand final on Saturday have no intention of spending any money, an increase from 12% the previous year.

Of those intending to make expenditures, fewer people have been preparing financially this year, as only 28% of participants set funds aside for their Eurovision festivities, which is a decrease from last year’s 34%.

A quarter (25 percent) intend to use their savings to cover expenses, an increase from 19 percent last year.

Almost one-fifth (18%) intend to utilize a credit card, which is somewhat lower than the 19% recorded in the previous year.

It is anticipated that food will be the most significant expense for over half (56%) of those attending parties, with alcohol coming second at 38%, followed by soft drinks at 37% and costumes or attire at 17%.

A smaller number of hosts will request contributions from their guests, with only 10% intending to do so this year compared to 20% in 2024.

According to a survey conducted by Opinium among 2,000 individuals throughout the UK in April, one in every 16 people (about 6%) intends to view the competition at a local pub or bar this year.

The group Trio Remember Monday is representing the UK at this year’s competition, which is taking place in Basel, Switzerland.

Adam Bullock, the UK director at TopCashback, stated: “A remarkable Eurovision evening doesn’t necessarily require a significant expense. By using some ingenuity and preparation, you can enjoy an elegant celebration without spending too much.”

For decorating your home, consider using second-hand decor sets available on platforms such as Vinted or eBay rather than purchasing brand-new items. Instead of investing heavily in elaborate costumes, explore the fun possibilities offered by face paints or makeup. Should hosting a festive gathering not appeal to you, look into ‘watch free’ events happening at local bars near you.

Bullock added that while fewer people are asking guests to contribute financially to Eurovision parties this year: “A simple way to keep costs down is to make it a ‘bring your own drink or dish’ event, guests are usually happy to pitch in when it means sharing a fun evening together.”
