HONOLULU (
KHON2
— Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines introduced a new program
no-show policy
Starting from Thursday, May 15, passengers who fail to show up for their flights and do not cancel in advance might forfeit their tickets.
entire
value of their ticket.
Alaska Air Group, which owns both carriers, stated that this rule affects passengers with a confirmed booking who do not arrive for their scheduled flight without giving prior notification.
Here’s what this means.
If you’re likely to miss your flight, Hawaiian asks you to inform them prior to departure. This way, you can keep the worth of your ticket as credit for a subsequent trip. However, failing to cancel promptly will result in losing your whole booking.
Including return trips or onward journeys
, will be canceled.
Travelers who purchased non-refundable tickets will not be eligible for reimbursement or have their mileage fees refunded if they fail to board the flight.
The airline suggested that if you’ve already missed your flight, it’s advisable to reach out to the Reservations Departments of either Hawaiian or Alaska Airlines promptly to explore potential options. Moreover, should you find yourself at the airport having only narrowly missed boarding, personnel stationed at the kiosks or check-in counters might still offer assistance.
The Hawaiian authorities stated that the policy is designed to decrease unoccupied seats and assist more passengers in departing on schedule.
Hawaiian Airlines stated partially: “Starting May 15, 2025, both Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines will implement a unified policy for handling passengers with non-refundable bookings who do not show up at boarding time. These no-shows refer to individuals holding reservations yet failing to embark upon their scheduled flights. This move towards adopting one standard practice aims to provide travelers flying through our merged worldwide network a smoother and uniform journey.”
Alaska Air Group advises passengers to “proactively” modify their non-refundable ticket reservations as needed for upcoming travels. Additionally, the airline informs customers they have the option to alter flight plans without paying change fees.
