Houby days kicks off with a fungi-tastic start despite rainy weather

The festivities for Houby Days begin on May 16th, an yearly event held in a small Czech village.

Houby is the Czech word for mushroom and the celebration is all about hunting for mushrooms.

On Friday, The Village launched the event featuring the Czech Plus Band, succeeded by a performance from the Cymbal Orchestra at the National Czech and Slovak Museum.

Although the rain somewhat dampened the atmosphere, they still had those tasty mushrooms available for sale.

For seventy dollars, you could have a pound of mushrooms. People claim it’s money well spent, predicting these will sell out quickly.

The festival spans an entire weekend and will come to an end on Sunday at 4:00 PM when the winners of the silent auction will be revealed.
