NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WLUC) — The Negaunee Downtown Development Authority has announced that two new outdoor tabletop checker boards are now accessible.
Here’s how it functions: Four establishments in the city center have consented to stock the checker components. This allows patrons to drop by and borrow the checkers. Every location will implement its individual lending policies for the game pieces to guarantee their comeback. According to Negaunee City Manager Nate Heffron, this initiative aims to enhance the appeal of downtown Negaunee further.
“Negaunee has made a turnaround; we’ve become more welcoming downtown by creating areas where people can gather and socialize. This was the primary aim of the downtown improvement initiative—to draw more visitors to local businesses, with hopes of retaining current jobs and even fostering job growth,” explained Heffron.
The involved enterprises include Jackson’s Pit, Midtown Café, Love and Bicycles, and The Cone on Iron Street.
