OpenAI Acquires Jony Ive’s Hardware Startup, Taps Him as Creative Head
– OpenAI has announced the acquisition of Jony Ive’s startup, io Products, and plans to welcome the former Apple design director as their creative lead. This move aims to develop devices specifically designed for the emerging generative AI era, according to an announcement made on Wednesday by the creators of ChatGPT.
According to an insider knowledgeable about the situation, the agreement was valued at $6.5 billion.
Ive and LoveFrom, a design firm Ive started after leaving Apple, have been collaborating with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and the company over the past two years, they said.
