PlayStation Stars loyalty programme is closing but Sony promises replacement

After significantly
reducing the level of service in 2024
, Sony has inevitably announced the closure of the PlayStation Stars loyalty program after only three years of operation.
With this service, you had the opportunity to accumulate points through purchases and gaming activities, which could then be redeemed for discounts on an array of PlayStation items, such as games. Nevertheless, amassing enough points to cover the cost of a full-price game was quite challenging, particularly after Sony made the conditions more stringent earlier last year.
Even though PlayStation Stars sounded good on paper, it received inadequate promotion and Sony appeared to swiftly lose enthusiasm for it. However, as they are currently shutting it down, they have assured that they will introduce an improved version to take its place.
‘Ever since we launched the program, we’ve gained valuable insights from assessing which kinds of activities our participants engage with most enthusiastically. As an organization, we continually adapt to both player preferences and shifts within the industry,’ states the announcement on the website.

‘As a result of this assessment, we’ve chosen to redirect our focus and will gradually phase out the present iteration of PlayStation Stars. We’ll keep examining the crucial insights gained from this program and are exploring methods to leverage these lessons.’
Effective right away, PlayStation Stars won’t be taking on any more new members. If you decide to cancel your membership at this point, you’ll forfeit all of your accumulated points, regardless of the number.
