TROIS-RIVIÈRES — The Sûreté du Québec reports that they have apprehended three individuals suspected of being involved in a fraud scheme related to high-end vehicles operating across five provinces.
It has been reported that over $3.3 million was fraudulently taken from at least 22 car dealerships across Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia between 2022 and 2023.
In a press statement, authorities indicate that the perpetrators acquired vehicles with an average value of $126,500 each by employing fake paperwork such as identification cards, fabricated credit histories, bogus checks, and falsified paycheck stubs to complete the purchases.
After obtaining the luxurious cars, the alleged perpetrators were planning to ship them abroad.
The police indicate that the cell started in Mascouche, Que., which is a northern suburb of Montreal, and they found two cars during their probe.
The three individuals—a 47-year-old from Mascouche, a 62-year-old from Montreal, and a 61-year-old who is presently being held in Ontario—were taken into custody and are scheduled to make their first appearance before the courts in Joliette, Quebec, sometime around mid-July.
The police mentioned they are continuing their search for a 42-year-old male from Mascouche who is linked to this case.
The report from The Canadian Press was initially released on May 22, 2025.
