Adrenaline junkies and roller coaster enthusiasts in Maryland will need to find excitement elsewhere after this coming winter season.

In May, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation declared that they would close Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Bowie, Maryland, on November 2nd following their operation of these locations for 25 years. The company plans to put up the 500-acre site for sale with intentions of redevelopment.

These locations offer roller coasters, aquatic attractions, and up-close wildlife experiences. This adjustment is part of Six Flags’ continuous initiative to optimize their portfolio. The firm states that Six Flags America presently has 70 full-time employees who will have access to severance packages and additional benefits.

“This was a challenging choice, and we acknowledge the effect it will have on our Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor park employees and visitors,” stated Richard A. Zimmerman, Six Flags’ president & CEO, in a statement provided to us.
