The company’s plan will impact teams in its global technology operations, e-commerce fulfillment in U.S. stores and its advertising business Walmart Connect.

“To speed up our advancement in creating the experiences that will shape the future of retail, we need to concentrate more intently,” the memo stated.

According to the plan, the firm will phase out certain positions while introducing several new roles as well.

Walmart stands as the biggest private employer in the United States, boasting roughly 1.6 million workers domestically. As per their site, they have an overall global workforce of approximately 2.1 million people.

It is likewise the nation’s largest importer, accounting for roughly 60% of its imports, which primarily include goods like apparel, electronic devices, and toys, sourced from China.

The Wall Street Journal was the first to report on the plans for reducing staff positions.

The firm previously announced that it would increase costs for certain items by the end of May due to President Donald Trump’s trade conflict impacting its supply chain and driving up expenditures.

In February, Walmart reduced certain positions and shut down an office in North Carolina as part of its strategy to transfer staff to its primary centers located in California and Arkansas.
