In two years, when Trudeau turns 53, he will start receiving his initial pension from his tenure as a Member of Parliament, which amounts to roughly $141,000 yearly. If he reaches the age of 90, this would accumulate to approximately $6.5 million. Additionally, beginning at age 67, he will be entitled to a secondary pension totaling $73,000 each year due to his service as Prime Minister. This additional benefit has been valued at around $1.9 million throughout his expected lifetime.
This year, upon his official exit from federal politics, he was granted a departure allowance of $104,900.
The two-pension system has drawn criticism from certain detractors—especially the CTF, which is urging Ottawa to revise the regulations. “Why should a prime minister, who is already earning millions from one pension, be entitled to another at the public’s expense?” asked Nicolas Gagnon, the organization’s Quebec director.
